Now that the whip-poor-will is established (1:11 this morning he was singing loudly, seemingly on our windowsill and tonight there are two calling to each other in the woods), the next bird we were waiting on arrived tonight a little after 6 o'clock. Shari, relaxing on the patio, saw the Ruby-throated Hummingbird sampling from one of the new feeders she put out last week. The old ones that stayed out all winter in the hope of attracting a western hummingbird species were pretty much beaten up. She called it out, I ran to the kitchen door just in time to see the little green hummer buzz off toward the pines.
That was our 65th species for the day.
