I was half asleep a few minutes ago when I heard our first
Eastern Whip-poor-will of the year. As I write, I hear one "singing." Close listening reveals that there are two, calling to one another. eBird has them flagged as still rare at this time, and perhaps they
are a little early, but there is no mistaking them. And thus it starts. Soon the neighbors--all these deaf folks who I can hear talking to each other two blocks away but somehow can hear these birds--will be cursing "those damn whip-poor-wills!"
