Whiting WMA-2/10--Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Activity is starting to pick up in the woods. Yesterday, I saw my first Black Vulture for this area. Turkey Vultures are very common; I literally see them every day. But Black Vultures are still unusual enough to take note of, especially when they're not in Cape May. And this one, unlike most Black Vultures, was flying very low, affording me excellent views of the white patches on the outside of its wings.

Today, I hit a little pocket of activity on the trail to the lake. Mixed in with a small group of Golden-Crowned Kinglets was my first Ruby-crowned Kinglet of the year. Bluebirds were in the open field with the nesting boxes, perhaps checking them out. If they don't like those, we have one right by the house they can have rent-free.
