Prospect 4/21--Windy

It felt like the wind today blew away a lot of birds. Still pretty good diversity, but it seemed like the numbers were down from Monday. Only real highlight (and a frustrating one at that) was a Blue-winged Warbler in a tree by the Lullwater bridge. My first reaction was Yellow Warbler but then I saw the two white wing bars on bluish-gray wings and knew I had something else. I watched it hop around the upper branches for a couple of minutes and then poof--it disappeared. It didn't fly away it just--vanished.

Another frustration was a Twitter message from Peter that Ovenbird, Worm-eating Warbler, and Great Crested Flycatcher had all been reported at the Upper & Lower Pools--where I had already been. I didn't rush over there, knowing my chances of seeing these birds was pretty low and I felt justified when another birder, who had been with the group leader who found the Worm-eating Warbler, told me that even though it was supposedly right in front of him, he still didn't see the bird. I did stop by there on the way out and of course nothing, nada, zilch.

Still, 43 species for the day.
